  1. Hi Michael,

Once you receive the fatal sysprep error, please reboot your machine back into our SmartPE environment. Hit shift-F10 on the splash screen and a command prompt should be displayed. Browse to C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Panther\Setupact.log. This log may be in the D:\ file path as well depending on your drive structure. Save that log to a USB/Network drive and send it to support@smartdeploy.log and we can investigate what may be going on.

    Thanks,

  2. Hi Mark,

If you update your default.ppk you'll want to re-create your boot media as that will contain the latest drivers for deployment. Even if you're not using the latest pack to create your boot media, and browsing through the network for your updated platform pack via the Deploy Wizard, you should still update your boot media as there are Windows PE drivers that may need to be injected into your boot media such as USB support and Ethernet for various models in the pack. If you're not updating any packs, your method of updating/shutdown/capture/deploy will work just fine.

    Thanks,

  3. Hi Maarten,

Usually when a user gets a sysprep error when deploying Windows 8.1 it due not performing a clean shutdown. Please start your virtual reference machine and open a command prompt and enter the following to perform a clean shutdown:

    shutdown.exe /s /t 0

Then re-capture/deploy. If you still encounter the error, please restart back into SmartPE and browse to C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Panther\Setupact.log and send that to support@smartdeploy.com and we can investigate further. Please note that this log could be in the D:\ file path as well depending on your drive structure.

    Thanks,

  5. Hello,

Do you have anti-virus enabled? If so, please disable it and attempt to open the pack again. If you still get the error, it seems as though it may have gotten corrupted some how and you may have to re-import your packs into a default.ppk.

    Thanks,

  6. Hello,

Just using the WDS server name will do. For example: wds-sea-01

Once you receive the error, please close out of the Deploy Wizard and hit Shift-F10 on the splash screen to bring up a command prompt. Then browse to X:\Windows\temp and send it to support@smartdeploy.com and we can take a look. Please include a brief description as well.

    Thanks,

  7. Hi Ashley,

You do not have to use the build wizard to create your virtual reference machines. We originally designed the build wizard to help users that were not familiar with virtualization products. You can simply build your virtual reference machines via the virtualization product itself. For example, VMWARE you can just select File->New Virtual Machine. Just be sure the hard disk is stored in a single file. VMware does support x64 so, please be sure you have the latest version of the VMware product.

    Thanks,

  8. Just to clarify, you receive the error once you boot to your USB and before you click "Deploy an image?"

What is the exact error? Please perform the following commands from an elevated Command Prompt after deleting all files/folders from your C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp directory (Some may be locked, that's ok) and disabling any anti-virus.

    1. Diskpart

    2. List Disk

    3. Select Disk 1 (Use the correct disk number here)

    4. Detail Disk (Ensure you have your USB drive selected)

    5. Clean (This destroys all data)

    6. Create partition primary

    7. Active

    8. Format quick fs=ntfs

    9. Assign letter E: (Any drive letter that works is fine)

    10. Exit

    11. Re-Run the media wizard to create the bootable USB drive

    Thanks,
