rokan Posted August 30, 2016 Report Share Posted August 30, 2016 I have encountered a problem when imaging from either a Windows 7 USB or Windows 10 USB in that when it starts to provision the disks (an SSD in this case), it will error out ("Failed to provision any disks. An exception has occurred.") and the physical disk size in the lower right hand corner will go from 238.5GB to 0. I do not have any problems provisioning disks using the same USB's for imaging on other Dells or Lenovos that we have in use. I have attached the deploy log to the post to assist in troubleshooting the issue. If you need any further information, please let me know. SmartDeploySupport Posted August 30, 2016 Report Share Posted August 30, 2016 Looks like you have a Hynix SSD, and Dell has a firmware update for it here. Probably should also try updating to the latest BIOS, which is A18 here. If those 2 things don't fix it, then once the error happens close Deploy Wizard, open a command window and grab the X:\windows\temp\diskpart.scr file. Still being new to using Smart Deploy, I would have thought these things would come down as part of the Platform Pack for the laptop. Is there are reason that is not the case? rokan Posted August 31, 2016 Author Report Share Posted August 31, 2016 I updated the laptop BIOS to the latest version A18. I tried running the Hynix SSD firmware utility from the link you provided and when I would run it, it did not recognize that any Hynix SSD drive was available, thus I could not run any firmware update. I went to the Dell support site for the specific E7240 I am working on and grabbed the latest Hynix firmware posted on their site and when I ran that utility, it saw the SK Hynix SH920 mSATA 256GB drive. I tried running the update, but it would fail. After some thought, we use a hard drive BIOS password on all our laptops, so I removed the BIOS set hard drive password and tried running the Hynix firmware utility again. This time I was able to run the firmware update and the SSD now has the firmware version 1010BL00 installed. Thinking that perhaps the BIOS hard drive password had been the issue all along, I had hopes that the next SD imaging process would work, alas it did not. Same issue occurs with either Windows 7 or the Windows 10 USB. Attached is the requested diskpart.scr txt file.
