Carlos
During the naming convention on the answer file I set the read from WMI property first, and wanted it to pull the serial number as the computer name. I set a prefix and let the WMI query as default. Unfortunately it didn't do this when I deployed the image. Is there a different step I am suppose to do to get it to read and set the serial number as the computer name?
Jeff Harris
I've seen instances where the prefix and serial number comes to 16 or more characters, which is rejected by Windows. When this happens, it will move to the next naming convention in line. Less frequently, the serial number field is blank.
Carlos
I just checked and the serial number and prefix combined only equals 11 characters so its within range. Would there be a step I am missing on getting this to work?
rdwollenberger
Is the default WMI query pulling the serial #? I am guessing that's what SMBIOSAssetTag is, but want to confirm
Dustin Miller
Here's my WMI query. Works everytime. The default never would for our Dells. SELECT SerialNumber FROM Win32_SystemEnclosure
